Public mental health institutions have horrid conditions that are in fact harmful to one’s mental condition

LAHORE: According to a news report, suicide among children in Japan is at its highest currently. Unfortunately, the situation is not so satisfactory in European or even Asian countries either. Suicide among youngsters is rising at an alarming rate. In Pakistan only, over the span of the past six months, a couple of media or public figure suicide cases have surfaced. However, suicide among the common people is far more prevalent than the extent one would ever believe it to be.

Yet the causes underlying the issue are innumerable, however, it can be easily summed up as lack of help and the counseling one needs in times of distress and discomfort. Moreover, therapy or psychological help is still out of the reach of many.

Public mental health institutions have horrid conditions that are in fact harmful to one’s mental condition. Alongside making the private mental healthcare affordable the government should simultaneously work on public mental health institutions.
