Tennis: Federer withdraws from Halle event
He did not want to risk aggravating his delicate groin ahead of Wimbledon later this month.
HALLE:
Switzerland’s former world number one and 16-time grand slam winner Roger Federer withdrew from the ATP tournament, saying that he did not want to risk aggravating his delicate groin ahead of Wimbledon later this month. The 30-year-old was due to meet Australia’s former world number one and defending champion Lleyton Hewitt in the second round but said his body needed rest after a gruelling French Open where he lost to current world number one Rafael Nadal in the final.
