Police gun down two suspected robbers in Faisalabad

Accused opened fire on police after the latter signaled them to stop

At least two suspected robbers were gunned down during an encounter with police in Faisalabad, Express News reported.

A police official said that Naveed, a resident of Millat Town’s Chak No 20, and his friend were on their way home after buying an LED TV when two suspected armed robbers intercepted them. The assailants snatched the TV at gunpoint and fled the scene.

In the meantime, four police officials from Bhaiwala checkpost, who were patrolling the area, reached the spot when Naveed informed them about the incident. The policemen chased the robbers and signaled them to stop. However, the outlaws opened fire on the police team and tried to escape. Police retaliated and an encounter ensued. Both robbers were killed on the spot, while a police constable and a passer-by sustained bullet injuries.

One of the deceased robbers was identified as Khalil, while the identity of the other was yet to be ascertained. The injured policeman was identified as Zeeshan Khalid. The injured were shifted to Allied Hospital for treatment. Doctors at the hospital said that both victims suffered two bullet injuries on different parts of their bodies.

Police also seized a motorcycle, weapons, mobile phones and other valuables from the possession of the suspects.

Police said that Khalil was a resident of Shehzad Town and had a criminal history. The deceased robber was wanted for a number of robbery incidents and crimes.

Earlier, a robber was killed in an encounter with police near Pir Colony in the limits of Shah Shams police station in Multan.

Police said a team raided a hideout and arrested a robber identified as Ali Raza.  Upon spotting the officials, the robber’s accomplices opened fire on the police team near Pull Jeeraywali. During the exchange of fire, accused Ali Raza suffered bullet injuries and was killed on the spot. However, his accomplices fled the scene.
