Why is IMF still needed?

Letter November 05, 2018
The question that arises is of the severity of the situation that how much money does the government need?

ISLAMABAD: Not quite long ago, PM Imran Khan criticised the former PM of the country for making trips to foreign countries when the situation at home was not satisfactory. Over the past few days, the prime minister repeated the history albeit due to the gravity of the economic situation facing the country. The PM over the past few weeks engaged in talks with Saudi Arabia and now with China only to make the economic conditions better that are indeed the greatest test of his government.

However, now that the government has secured financial assistance from Saudi Arabia and China, approaching the IMF is still an option that the government is not ruling out. The question that arises is of the severity of the situation that how much money does the government need? And more importantly how does it plan to pay back whatever it is getting now or does it plan to leave it for the next government much like its predecessors.
