The petition filed by the Interior Ministry states that Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan is not cooperating with the Pakistan government with regards to his security.
In 2009, the Islamabad High Court had declared the scientist to be a free citizen but had imposed some restrictions on his movement due to security concerns.
Today’s (Tuesday's hearing was chaired by the Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court Justice Iqbal Hameed. Security officials who appeared before the court, raised serious objections against Khan’s frequent travelling and meetings, fearing that it would put his life at risk. They also voiced concerns regarding his communication with the press.
The chief justice has issued a legal notice to Dr Khan and said that any final decision would be taken after hearing the defendant’s arguments.
