JUI-S announces 10-day mourning

Party says anti-state elements behind fatal attack on Maulana Samiul Haq

The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Sami (JUI-S) has announced a 10-day mourning in Balochistan on the assassination of Maulana Samiul Haq in Rawalpindi on Friday.

Addressing newsmen at Quetta Press Club on Saturday, party leaders demanded of the government to apprehend the culprits. They called it ‘a planned murder’ and alleged that anti-state elements were behind the killing.

JUI-S leader Maulana Mufti Abdul Wahid Bazai, provincial chief Maulana Nida Muhammad and Jamiat Talba Islam’s provincial convener Muhammad Azam Sajjad addressed the press conference before departing for Peshawar.

“The JUI-S supported the Afghan jihad in the past and will continue to do so,” the leaders said.



In the wake of the murder of the elderly leader, an executive committee meeting was called at the party office where central committee members were also present. During the meeting, the party leaders insisted that it was a planned murder.

They said the incident had raised many questions about the security situation, even at a time when protest sit-ins had been called off.

The party leadership urged workers to attend all events in support of the slain leader but advised them to maintain peace.

The party, meanwhile, thanked the traders for observing a strike on Saturday and said it would announce its next plan after a meeting of the central committee. The JUI-S would continue its struggle and not rest until the mission of the party leader was achieved, said the leaders.
