Proper arrangements during protests

Letter November 03, 2018
This gravely affects not just the economy of the country

KARACHI: In times of a protest taking place in metropolitan cities of Pakistan, due to whatever reason, it is the responsibility of the state to inform citizens of alternative routes to take while moving around the city.

It has been witnessed time and again that once a protest erupts in a particular area(s), a city, even the commercial hub of Pakistan, Karachi, comes to an almost standstill.

This gravely affects not just the economy of the country but also the poor segments of society whose daily wages are severely affected, leaving them with no earnings to buy their daily bread and butter.

In the wake of this, the city administration should provide a road map of alternative routes to take, while putting a red flag on those where the protestors have set camps.

Doing this would not only help the commuters but also daily workers, as they would avoid setting up their stalls or carts in the red-flagged areas.
