PESHAWAR: The law college of a top varsity in the province has been allowed to complete its admission process on Thursday after a court vacated the stay order.
This was directed by two-judge bench of the Peshawar High Court (PHC), comprising Justice Qaiser Rashid Khan and Justice Qalandar Ali Khan, heard a case of a student who had called for halting the admission process of the University of Peshawar (UoP) law college since the Abdul Wali Khan University (AWKU) had yet to announce results for its students.
As a result, petitioner Sohail Nasir had argued, that students would not be able to apply for admissions in the UoP. Based on his arguments — presented by Mohammad Fayyaz, the court had stopped UoP from completing the admissions process in a preliminary hearing, while the AWKU in Mardan was directed to announce results without any further delay. On Wednesday, UoP’s lawyer Waseemuddin told the court that AWKU had declared the result and that the UoP will arrange aptitude tests for students of the Mardan-based varsity through the National Testing Service (NTS) within a week so that their results can be included in the final merit list of UoP.
He said the stay granted by the court on the admissions process for the law college had affected the overall admissions process of the varsity.
