QUETTA: The National Party (NP) on Tuesday elected former chief minister of Balochistan Dr Abdul Malik Baloch as the party’s new president and Mir Jan Muhammad Buledi as secretary general.

Speaking after his election during a party congress, the newly-elected president said the NP had always worked for the uplift of the people of Balochistan.

“Our founding fathers continued their struggle despite any difficulty. If someone thinks we will abandon our struggle due to any pressure or fear, he lives in a fool’s paradise,” he said, adding that no one can stop the NP from working for the rights of the people of Balochistan.

Baloch said that ‘fake cases’ could not deter the struggle of the party that had faced martial laws in the past. The party leadership, he warned, would resist ‘all the moves to curb the party’s freedom’.

The former CM said he would take all possible steps to implement the decisions the three-day party congress had taken.

He urged party leaders and workers to promote comradeship in the party and maintain friendship and respect among each other.
