KARACHI:
Pakistan is undergoing challenging times with its financial crisis and debt servicing on one side and need for further funds for urgent and pressing projects on the other. The government of Pakistan is very clear in its stance on further entrenchment in debts by the IMF and apparently there is little in way of overcoming this issue. However, in part, the solution to the problem lies in shifting more focus on telecom sector and continuing to reap the benefits through this goldmine of opportunities. Notwithstanding the fact that cellular sectors the world over are facing revenue and growth challenges of their own due to saturation, evolving needs, technology changes, ever increasing competition and high costs, there is a lot of growth potential that impacts the socioeconomic indicators in developing countries and Pakistan is no exception. The contribution of telecom sector in Pakistan so far is best indicative of the potential and opportunities it offers in an era of digitalisation.
