Observing legend Khwaja Khurshid Anwar's 34th death anniversary

Renowned music composer passed away on October 30, 1984

LAHORE: Today marks the 34th death anniversary of legendary music director and composer Khwaja Khurshid Anwar. Showbiz personalities expressed their sentiments regarding the renowned artist as the anniversary is being observed, terming him as one of the biggest music directors of the Pakistani cinema.

"Khwaja Khurshid Anwar was no doubt a big music director however, people nowadays are unaware of him and his work. For example, his production Aahange Khusrvi was an album which consisted of 30 records. He composed and collected compositions of the subcontinents most famous music families. These compositions were then recorded in the voice of famous singers. I cannot recall anyone else within our industry doing something like this," music director and composer Raza Shah shared with The Express Tribune.

Folk singer Shoukat Ali also sang praises for the late musician. "Khwaja Khurshid Anwar produced many music tones and his work was very creative and unique. We must credit him for producing the signature tune for Radio Pakistan."

The Rim Jhim Rim Jhim hitmaker, who was a close relative of national poet Allama Iqbal, was born on March 21, 1912 in Mianwali. He completed his masters in Philosophy from Government College Lahore with flying colours.

Although he was always known to exceed expectations when it came to his academics, Anwar wasn't so lucky when it came to job interviews. Eventually, after a handful of rejections, he found himself more inclined towards music.

1939 saw the renowned personality begin work as a music producer at All India Radio. During this time, he was acquainted to Abdur Rashid Kardar, a famous film-maker of the time. In 1941, Anwar produced the music for Kardad's film Karmai after which, he went on to receive many music proposals one after another. He was offered to create the music for film Ashara after that, which went on to become a super hit film due to its music. And thus, began Anwer's flourishing music career.

The Sagar Roye star was most active following Partition and had served as the music director for around 18 films including Mirza Sahiban, Zahere Ishaq, Aayaz, Sarhad, Heer Ranjha, Mirza Jatt, Salame Muhabat among others. He also directed Ghoungat, Haider Ali and Hamraaz. Anwar passed away on October 30, 1984.
