CHARSADDA: Senior journalist and Chief Secretary of the Charsadda Press Club Ehsan Sherpao, along with three others, was shot dead on Tuesday after a scuffle at a jirga meeting.

The jirga meeting was being presided by Sherpao. One person was also injured in the incident.

The suspect, Syed Jamal, was also attending the jirga meeting to settle the family dispute. Jamal fled after opening fire at the attendees of the meeting.

According to District Police Officer (DPO) Charsadda Irfanullah, Ehsan's killer was a drug addict and had previously killed his wife and killed his mother, his sister in law, his nephew and Ehsan, who was his cousin, today.

15 injured in aerial firing at wedding ceremony in Faisalabad

Earlier in September, at least 15 people were injured in aerial firing during a wedding ceremony in Faisalabad.

A police official said that a marriage ceremony was underway in 106-GB village within Saddar police station limits. He added that friends of the groom resorted to aerial firing in jubilation.

He maintained that as a result of heavy firing, guests ran to take cover but 15 of them, including children, suffered bullet injuries. The injured were shifted to Tehsil Headquarter Hospital for treatment.

Soon after the incident, Saddar Police Station In-charge Khalid Gujjar reached the spot with heavy police contingent and arrested 18 people, including the bride’s father Muhammad Safdar and uncle Abdul Rasheed.
