Campaign against Indian DTH ordered

PEMRA chief Muhammad Saleem Baig emphasised on the implementation of SC orders regarding Indian content and channels

KARACHI:
Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) chief Muhammad Saleem Baig visited the Karachi Regional Office on Saturday and emphasised on the implementation of Supreme Court (SC) orders regarding Indian content and channels.

He asked the officers to launch an effective enforcement campaign against illegal Indian direct-to-home (DTH) television, C-line and Android boxes and ordered for a complete crackdown against their sale and associated activities.

Baig instructed Pempra officials to coordinate with other law enforcement agencies such as the Federal Investigation Agency, Customs Intelligence, Police and Rangers so that no room is left for those indulging in this business. Referring to the SC orders, which were issued on Saturday, he said that Indian DTH causes a huge financial loss to the country’s exchequer. Therefore, all efforts should be made to make this campaign effective as this drive will also pave way for promoting Pakistani DTH which will be launched soon, he said.
