ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) on Saturday extended the working hours for mobile registration vans by three hours to 7pm after Prime Minister Imran Khan took notice of long queues outside the centres.

Govt vs NADRA

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) leader and special assistant to the PM on political affairs Naeemul Haq visited a Nadra centre on PM Imran's instructions and heard the complaints of those queuing outside.

He then spoke to Nadra Chairman Mobin who ordered the extension in the vans' working hours.

Before the elections, PTI took issue with Mobin and accused him of sharing "sensitive" information" with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to influence elections. The party had demanded the interim government remove Mobin to ensure free and fair elections in the country.

PTI wants NADRA chief out

Upon the expiry of his three-year contract in February 2018, the PML-N government had approved Mobeen’s reappointment as NADRA chairman for the next three years. Being the top database authority of the country, NADRA has access to all information about citizens and plays a key role in the preparation of electoral rolls.
