Revival of cinema?

Letter October 25, 2018
Merely on the pages of newspapers, magazines and the electronic media

LAHORE: A lot is being said about the revival of Pakistani cinema. But the reality on the ground is that this revival is merely on the pages of newspapers, magazines and the electronic media. Names of present-day film actors are splashed on the pages of newspapers only but among the common people no one probably enjoys popularity. No one remembers their names whether from movies or TV plays. What to speak of Pakistani cinema even the Indian film industry is on the decline. In both countries films are being produced which have no takers. Films become hits on the basis of storyline, calibre of actors, dialogues and music. What is being churned out now is anything but music. No one remembers any dialogues, Where are dialogues like “ kahan say aye hain ye jhumkay, Kisnay pehna’ay hain ye jhumkay, “ Kitnay aadmi thay,” Englis ij a phunny language,” etc.
