Economic Survey to be released tomorrow

ISLAMABAD: Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance, Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh is set to launch The Economic Survey of Pakistan for 2009-10, a pre-budget analysis, on Friday.

The document highlights the overall performance of the economy during the outgoing fiscal year and provides a realistic basis for forward planning.

The survey covers development of all important sectors of the economy including growth and investment, agriculture, manufacturing, mining, fiscal development, money and credit, capital markets, inflation and debt and liabilities.

The survey also highlights the performance of education, health and nutrition, population, labour and employment, poverty, transport and communications. It also assesses issues of environment, tax expenditure and social indicators.

The government has approved Rs663 billion for the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for the year 2010-11, in which priority will be given to projects close to completion.
