ISLAMABAD: An accountability court on Monday adjourned hearing a case filed against former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani for abuse of authority till November 23.

Gillani appeared before Judge Arshad Malik where he ran into deposed PM Nawaz Sharif who was also present for his hearing.

Due to the absence of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor, Gillani requested the court to hear Sharif's case first.

"Sharif's case will consume the entire day," the judge responded before deciding to take up Sharif's plea first.

Talking to the media outside court, Gillani said he has been appearing before court for many years and will continue to do so. "Four prime ministers have appeared before court. The fifth one will appear as well."

The former PM also said accountability institutions should be independent and not be influenced by incumbent PM Imran Khan.

"I languished in jail for 10 years. But I was made PM after being proven innocent," he said before concluding. "Who will give answers for my 10 years spent in jail."
