Korean cultural event held at Lahore's Alhamra Hall

The Korean Embassy organised a traditional cultural performanceiIn collaboration with Lahore Art Council

LAHORE: In collaboration with Lahore Art Council, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea organised a traditional cultural performance for the people of Lahore. It was held at Alhamra Hall yesterday, stated a press release. This comes as part of the council's efforts to continuously strengthen cultural linkages between Pakistan and other countries.

The event featured performances by the Korean art troupe Gwangdae, of the Goseong Five Clowns. The group creates modernised showcases which incorporate traditional folk arts such as Talchum (mask dance-drama), Pungmul (folk percussion ensemble) and Namsadang-nori (all-male vagabond clown play).

Special invitations were sent to many showbiz personalities. Punjab Minister for Information and Culture, Fayyazul Chohan attended as the guest of honour. Punjab Council of Arts' executive director Saman Rai and Alhamra Hall's arts and culture director Zulfiqar Ali Zulfi were also present at the event.

‘City of Dreams and Nightmares’ opens at Alhamra

A few days ago, Alhamra Hall played host to performances by Austrian musical band, Kusimanten in celebration of the Austrian National Day. The performance staged by the band garnered an amazing response, especially the jugalbandi feature at the end which had Ustad Nafees Ahmad and Ustad Muhammad Waqas on the tabla.

Kusimanten comprises three founders named Deelinde, Marie-There’s Hartel and Tamara Lukasheva. Marie-There’s and Deelinde are sisters and their combination with Tamara has proved wonderful, leading to the fame they desired. The band members shared that although they have received a lot of love and appreciation from the people of various countries, Lahore was one of the most enthusiastic of them all.

Many such cultural events have been arranged within Lahore in the past. “It is a prime objective of Alhamra to arrange events which explore and promote the cultural values of Pakistan both locally and internationally. We do this to build cultural links with the several nations and their people” Zulfi told The Express Tribune earlier.
