Allama Iqbal Open University: Campus, study centres to be set up

Thirty thousand teachers from across the country will be trained to improve their teaching skills.

LARKANA: Model study centres will be established in areas, including Larkana, Umerkot and Nawabshah, said the Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) vice chancellor, Professor Nazir Ahmed Sangi. He was speaking at the Larkana Press Club on Saturday evening. Thirty thousand teachers from across the country will be trained to improve their skills and develop their teaching capacity, he said. AIOU has 36 regional offices in Pakistan and nearly 1.2 million students at its campuses. “The university is suitable for female students because it provides them the opportunity to study from home. Similarly, people living in far-flung areas with no educational institutions can also be educated with the help of AIOU.” The university has established a video-conferencing network in seven regions to conduct online classes for computer science courses. Sangi said they are working to acquire land or a building to set up a campus in Larkana, while a foundation for the Bahawalpur campus has been laid by the prime minister. The AIOU Larkana assistant regional director (ARD), Ghulam Umar Abbasi, Sukkur ARD Abdul Qadir Sahito and Liaquat Ali Channa also attended the press conference.
