Retired cricket star Shahid Afridi returned from England to Pakistan late on Sunday, to face the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) disciplinary committee, who had earlier suspended the cricketer's contract.
Afridi returned amidst a throng of fans and supporters, waiting hours prior to his arrival, at the Karachi airport to welcome him with flags, placards and posters.
A potent political presence was present amongst the fans as well, in the form of MQM and ANP workers. They had showed up with party flags.
Despite any special security arrangements, Afridi surprisingly chose to exit from the main entrance instead of the back door exit, and was on his way to his home in Gulshan.
As mentioned in a previous report in The Express Tribune, Afridi has shown his reservations at the disciplinary committee hearing due to take place on Wednesday and has requested, through his lawyers, that the session is not a closed one.
In a strongly worded reply to the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB), a copy of which is with The Express Tribune, the former captain’s legal representative Barrister Syed Zafar Ali has questioned the legality of any closed session while stressing that the ‘PCB has already made up its mind’ and that Afridi is guilty’.
