Govt lacks capacity to deliver, says PML-N

Marriyum says ruling party's 60-day performance proves they can’t tackle issues

LAHORE: Condemning the recent hike in gas prices, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) spokesperson Marriyum Auranzeb has said that the ‘inflation bomb’ dropped on the masses is an anti-people act.

"The continuous increase in prices of essential commodities has made the life of people miserable," Marriyum said in a statement on Friday.

She said the ruling party's 60-day performance proved their inability to tackle national and public issues. "The incumbent government lacks the capacity to take prudent decisions pertaining to economy, trade and foreign relations of the country," she added.

Expressing fear and anguish, the PML-N leader said increase in gas prices would not only deprive laborers and workers of their bread and butter but also result in further economic slowdown.



“Voters have rejected government's anti-people and anti-poor policies in the recent by-elections which clearly indicates people’s distrust in the government," Marriyam said. "But the rulers pay no heed to the cries of the people and continue to burden them."

She warned that people would take to the streets if the current state of affairs persisted and the unprecedented price hike was not halted immediately.

"The whole nation is unnerved at the way the current regime is managing the state of affairs at foreign, domestic, economic, political and administrative levels," she said. "It appears as if they have mastered the art of lying and deceit, and accusing opponents."

The PML-N spokesperson warned the people to fasten their belts because “the next 40 days will lead the country towards the worst economic crisis of its history”.

She hailed deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif for “providing relief to the people” and said despite economic pressures, he did not burden the poor and the vulnerable.

“Remember the rulers are hatching a big conspiracy against the masses whenever they begin chattering the anti-corruption mantra." she said. "They actually mean Tabahee [destruction] when they chant the slogan of Tabdeeli [change]."
