Indian Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan says people with "perverted minds" initiated the #MeToo movement, India Today reported on Friday.

Radhakrishnan, made the remarks while speaking to reporters at an event. "#MeToo is a result of the activities of some people with perverted minds. This has corrupted the purity of our land. They are trying to destroy the honour of our women," the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) man said.
He proceeded to 'argue' what would transpire if men started levelling accusations 'like' women had been doing. This will be a big insult. Will it be acceptable, the minister 'posited'.
The#MeToo movement gained momentum in India with Bollywood actor Tanushree Dutta accusing veteran Nana Patekar of harassment. Scores followed suit with their own stories.

Separately, editor-turned-politician MJ Akbar resigned on October 17 amidst sexual misconduct allegations by over 15 journalists. The BJP politician, arguably the most influential to be accused, tendered his resignation to 'fight' the allegations. He has moved court against his first accuser journalist Priya Ramani.
