Protecting journalists

A journalist was shot dead by unidentified men in Haripur

ISLAMABAD: Journalists examine the government on behalf of the people. They are also known as the Fourth Estate of a country. They make the public aware of the ongoing situations in a country and sometimes put their lives at risk for us.

On Oct 17, we once again lost a journalist in the limits of Haripur police. The journalist was shot dead by unidentified men. According to reports, Pakistan is the fourth-most dangerous country in the world for journalists to work in. While the situation is much better than 2006 when 155 journalists were reportedly killed, the country is still not safe for journalists.

The government should take strict actions against the culprit and ensure that people who report on the injustices prevailing in society get justice.
