Over 1,000 children, from primary and middle schools, participated in E-Force School Programme, a poster art exhibition and competition organised by the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC), in which the best posters were given prizes.
Children, who studied in class I-III, were judged on the basis of their ideas whereas the work of class IV-VI students were reviewed on the basis of ideas as well as artistic endeavour.
KESC had received 1,000 poster entries and the qualifying posters were screened and shortlisted by a panel of judges, that included Yasmin Lari, chairperson of The Heritage Foundation, Samina Raees Khan, executive director of the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture (IVSAA), Sadia Fazli, head of architecture, University of Karachi and Taimur Suri, IVSAA faculty member. In her opening speech, Zehra Mehdi, General Manager, Corporate Social Responsibility at KESC, introduced the programme as a drive “to sensitise students representing various households and schools of Karachi”.
KESC CEO Tabish Gauher said, “Energy conservation is the only solution to the current energy crisis. Engaging kids and instigating a behavioural change will help us convey the message to future generations.”
“It is a pleasant surprise to see KESC involved in such endeavours and we hope that the company will continue to be a part of such social initiatives,” said Yasmin Lari in her speech.
