In a statement released on Wednesday, Haroon’s widow stated that the attack on her husband, which took place just days before the July 25 general elections, needs to be properly investigated.

Samar won Sunday’s by-election on PK-78, securing 20,916 votes to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Muhammad Abdus salam who secured 16,819 votes. In doing so, she became the first woman member of the provincial assembly to be elected on a general seat for the past 16 years.
The party had then nominated Samar to take up her husband’s place during the by-elections.

Samar said that she will raise her voice for the judicial commission at every forum.
She added that her family is still on the hit list of terrorists, but they will continue their struggle for democracy and rights of the people.
