He was speaking at an awareness seminar and a walk held in connection with the World Food Day organised by the university at the National Institute of Food Science and Technology on Tuesday.
Dr Butt said food diversity is essential to mitigate the issue of malnutrition. The UAF has launched a BS programme in human nutrition and dietetics to produce the skilled manpower, he said. He added there is a need to create awareness about the balanced use of food and the use of junk food must be avoided. "This year calls upon us to take timely action for achieving the target of zero hunger by 2030."
Faculty of Agriculture Engineering and Technology Dean Dr Allah Buksh, who led the awareness walk, said this year's theme is ‘Our actions are our future, a Zero Hunger World by 2030 is possible' reminds us of the need to ensure that everyone has access to safe, affordable and nutritious food at all times to live a healthy and happy life. He said that joint efforts are desired to deal with the challenges of the hunger from society. He added that the World Food Day is observed across the globe and it is aimed at ensuring the food security to end the hunger from the world.
