Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday lauded support of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party workers and termed the by-polls results a glimpse of the political atmosphere lying ahead after the party managed marginal gains against the ruling party.

Speaking to media representatives outside the accountability court hearing corruption references against members of the Sharif family, Nawaz thanked God for the support of people who made this win possible.

"It was the first time in Pakistan's history that such an election result has been witnessed just 50 days after the formation of a new government," he said. "I have been to jail, Shehbaz is in jail, and everyone knows of the treatment meted to Saad Rafique, but PML-N still managed to win seats."

Criticising the incumbent government's economic policies, Nawaz said that his government maintained the dollar rate for four years and did not let it exceed Rs104.

"There were no price hikes during our era. The prices of common commodities were suitable and the poor people were not worried," he stated.

Before concluding his media talk outside court, the former premier reminded the people that the by-polls results indicate a political trend in the country.

"God will change the current situation. We all should pray for the betterment of the country."

Muneer | 5 years ago | Reply The comparison of votes polled by PMLN In by elections Oct 18 and general elections jul 18 in two National and two provincial seats of Lahore indicate a down ward trend in votes polled for PMLN in by elections. Where as PTI has substantially increased its vote count in the two provincial seats of Lahore.Glimpse in the future elections in the Punjab indicates increased support of PTI.The superficial analysis of PMLN on basis of winning seats and not taking in account the number of votes polled in by elections seems to be indulging in self deception.
