Rights of transgender persons

Letter October 13, 2018
They are ill-treated from childhood and as children they are not aware of the reason of being treated in such a manner

TURBAT: Transgender persons are also human beings just like everyone else and they deserve equal treatment. But yet they are not getting their due rights in society and family. What is worse is that they are ill-treated from childhood and as children they are not even aware of the reason of being treated in such a manner. This gravely affects their upbringing.

Some parents consciously choose to abandon their offspring because of he/she having been born a transgender. These children are then left to fend for themselves, and often ending up at brothels.

They have few job opportunities, as employers do not want to hire them. While the government asks businesses to hire transgender persons and schools to enroll them, these institutions do not oblige.

The federal and provincial governments should ensure that private and public organisations are adhering to the rules set for them. Transgender persons deserve to be treated fairly and it is time we stood for them and with them.
