Not many are aware that the 2012 romantic drama The Vow, starring Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams, was based on the story of real-life couple Kim and Krickitt Carpenter.

'The Vow' wows viewers

The film revolves around Paige (Rachel) and Leo (Channing) who encounter a car crash a few months into their marriage, making Paige lose all memories of her husband. She retrieves them by the end of the movie and moves on to live a happy life with Leo. But the irony lies in the fact that the once inspirational couple, Kim and Krickitt, has now decided to part ways after 25 years of marriage, reported Inside Edition.

The pair wed in a romantic candlelit ceremony in 1993 but two months later, they got into a terrible accident and Krickitt suffered a life threatening brain injury, making her forget everything about her spouse. After being in a coma for four months, Krickitt finally woke up unaware of her surroundings and her marriage.

Kim said, "Not only did she not remember that we were married, but she didn’t even recognise me. I was devastated, of course, but I tried not to dwell on it because I was just so glad she was alive." He added that after Krickitt had recovered physically, they went for couple counselling and were forced to start their relationship all over again. They even enjoyed some long walks, dinner dates and movie nights together.

During The Vow's premiere, Kim stated, "I made a vow, she would never have married a man who walked away." But overtime, Krickitt started falling in love with Kim again.

Krickitt said, "Slowly and steadily, we created those memories together and everything else slowly started to fall into place. My love did grow for Kim deeply, but it was never a fluffy, gooey falling-in-love feeling again.'My heart didn’t skip beats; I didn’t feel swept off my feet. I would love to have felt that, but it isn’t the truth - I made a choice to love him."

They two renewed their vows in 1996 and gave birth to two children - a son Danny in 2000 and a daughter, LeeAnn in 2003.

But in a shocking turn of events, Krickitt has now revealed that her husband has been unfaithful to her. She said, "Kim was having an affair, I never thought that was a road we would go down because I made a vow for life. It was shocking and surprising to me because we were so committed to each other and to the vow."

Krickitt added that she just "figured" that Kim was having an affair with someone earlier this year and when she approached him, he admitted to it. Four months after the confrontation, she moved into another house with her daughter while the son decided to live with Kim.

'The Vow' good, could have been great

Despite being cheated on, Krickitt still believes in love. She concluded, "I'm thankful for the 25 years that I had because I have two amazing children and we had so many great times together." Now, since the divorce has been finalised, Krickitt is making a new vow to focus on the positive.
