Pakistan conducts successful launch of Ghauri missile system

Ballistic missile can carry nuclear warheads up to 1,300km

Pakistan on Monday successfully conducted a training launch of the Ghauri Missile System, said the army's media wing.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the launch was carried out by the Army Strategic Forces Command (ASFC) to test their operational and technical readiness.

The Ghauri Ballistic Missile can carry conventional and nuclear warheads up to a distance of 1,300km.

Commander ASFC Lieutenant-General Mian Muhammad Hilal Hussain appreciated their standard of training and operational preparedness.

"The launch consolidates Pakistan’s nuclear capability which is aimed at peace and stability through a credible deterrence regime," added the statement.

President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan conveyed their appreciation on the successful launch. Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and the Services Chiefs have also congratulated the scientists and engineers on the accomplishment.

The launch was witnessed by Commander Army Strategic Forces Lt-Gen Hussain, Chairman NESCOM Dr Nabeel Hayat Malik and Chairman KRL Tahir Ikram apart from senior officers from the strategic forces, scientists and engineers of strategic organisations.
