Reacting strongly to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz's (PML-N) announcement of launching protests against Shehbaz Sharif's arrest, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Monday said those who have plundered the wealth of the nation would be held accountable despite all protests.

By drawing the PML-N leadership into his firing line, Chaudhry, while addressing the media in Islamabad, said that "state institutions should not be ridiculed and must be given respect."

The federal minister said the government had no role in the arrest of PML-N president Shehbaz.

"All institutions are working within their constitutional limits," he added.

Government has nothing to do with arrest: Fawad Chaudhry

The information minister said that the hue and cry of the opposition could not put an end to the accountability process, adding that "they [opposition] are finding excuses to stage walkouts."

The statement comes in the wake of PML-N leadership laying out the gauntlet to the government by announcing to launch a countrywide protest against the arrest of the party president at the hands of National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Speaking to the media after a meeting of the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC), chaired by former premier Nawaz Sharif earlier today, PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah had said that protest demonstrations will be staged outside the national and Punjab assemblies on Wednesday if the government fails to call fresh sessions of the two houses by tomorrow.

He added that if the party’s demands were not met then the protest would not only be contained to the assemblies but would also be carried out in the streets.
