Child beggars

Letter October 08, 2018
These children are unable to escape as they are always being monitored by those who have forced them into this

TURBAT: It is a crying shame that so many children, as little as two years old, are seen begging on our streets. More often than not, they are coerced into begging by their own parents. While some parents really do not have any other means to earn a livelihood than to beg, others do not want to take up any work and have made begging a sort of racket or family business as it were. They do not send their children to school and believe in having more children as a means of more individuals begging for them.

Even in Turbat’s main market, one can see many children begging. These children are unable to escape as they are always being monitored by those who have forced them into this. The gangs who force poor children into begging and profit from begging should be dealt with an iron hand.

It is time to rescue and rehabilitate these children. The authorities concerned should devise a strategy to track this begging racket and arrest the culprits. The future of the country is begging on the streets and it is our obligation to save them.
