Rs1.2 b allocated for schemes of law, justice

This marks an increase of 20% from the previous year, when Rs1 billion were allocated.

The federal government Friday announced Rs1.2 billion for five ongoing schemes of law, justice and parliamentary division for the fiscal year 2011-12. This marks an increase of 20% from the previous year, when Rs1 billion were allocated.


From the money allocated to the projects last year (Rs20.069 billion), Rs14.339 billion were spent, while the remaining amount of roughly Rs5.730 billion was carried forward. The government’s allocation of Rs1.2 billion brings the total amount available for the projects in 2011-12 to about Rs6.93 billion.

There are five projects slated for 2011-12, Project for Technical Assistance to Access to Justice Program (AJP), Federal Programme under AJP, Provincial Programme under AJP, Construction of Supreme Court of Pakistan and Furnishing of Supreme Court Building.

The Access to Justice Programme aims to reduce the enormous backlog of court cases. During the implementation process of the project, judges were taught case-flow management techniques in Pakistan with the aim of facilitating rapid case disposal and to strengthen legal protection for all.

The technical assistance program aims to manage to the judicial reform process by appointing a long-term technical advisor, monitoring and evaluation of AJP, and by building institution and capacity.
