Unending power outages

Load-shedding has now become an everyday affair in our town in Karachi

KARACHI: Load-shedding has now become an everyday affair in our town in Karachi. People have to live in complete darkness for long hours in the absence of electricity. In the past four days, Karachi has experienced long hours of load- shedding and every day the power generating company gives a different excuse for this power outage.

Those who are most affected by this frequent load-shedding are students who find it difficult to study owing to the darkness. On the other hand, old people and little children are also at a disadvantage. What is worse is that long hours of power outages give way to an increase in crimes on streets.

The curse of load-shedding has become like a chronic disease for the country that damages the normal life of people. There seems to be no respite from this. The newly-elected PTI government should look into the matter immediately, as Karachi with a population of 20 million people cannot afford long hours of power outages.
