Traffic wardens fail to maintain smooth flow
An official of the Karachi Infrastructure Development Company Limited (KIDCL) told The Express Tribune that the development work on the roof of the underpass will be completed within five months, after which it will be opened for traffic. The entire project is expected to be completed within nine months.
He said that an alternative traffic plan has been devised in collaboration with the traffic police to be used during the construction of the underpass at Numaish Chowrangi.
The KIDCL official said that various roads have been widened and carpeted to take the load of the traffic diverted from MA Jinnah Road.
He added that Numaish Chowrangi is the busiest intersection of the city and the construction work may result in traffic jams, causing inconvenience to the public. "We will try to construct the roof over the underpass within five months so commuters don't suffer for long." He further said that on completion, both the tracks will be opened for traffic while the underpass construction will continue.

He stated that it will be a multi-storey underpass where arrangements for parking of the buses will also be made. The underpass project is expected to be completed within nine months, however, KIDCL will try to complete the project at the earliest, according to officials.
Traffic plan
According to the traffic plan, Mansfield Street and Garden Road will be used for traffic coming from Saddar and Tower while traffic going from Gurumandir towards Saddar and Tower will be diverted to New MA Jinnah Road, Peoples Chowrangi and Preedy Street. The traffic from other city areas to Saddar and Tower will go through Preedy Street and Peoples Chowrangi.
