Misogynistic mindset

University of Karachi administration recently issued a notification that fines women for smoking

KARACHI: The University of Karachi administration recently issued a notification that reads ‘Fine of Rs1,000 will be imposed if a girl is found accessing the smoking areas in Karachi University’.

I totally agree that smoking is injurious to one’s health and should be banned. Smoking causes many diseases that affect important body parts such as lungs and heart.

However, considering that KU is an institution of higher learning, I wonder why the notice only targets the female students of the varsity? This is inequality and discrimination targeted at one segment of our society.

Education teaches us that girls and boys, females and males, are all equal in everything. Hence, if the restriction has to be imposed then it should be applied at both the sexes. The notice only highlights the misogynistic mindset of the university, only badly affecting the minds of our youth.
