GUIYANG:

Pakistan boxers Nisar Khan and Mohammad Waseem, ousted from the China Open of Boxing event in the quarter-finals, were awarded fifth rankings in their respective categories as the event concluded in Guiyang yesterday.

Nisar lost to a Chinese opponent in the middleweight category while Waseem was beaten by a boxer from Philippines in the last-eight bout of his flyweight category. Both boxers started off well and were seemingly ahead of their opponents but late fightback sealed their exit from the event.

The other two Pakistan boxers - Sardar Mohammad (lightweight) and Amir Khan (light welterweight) who took part in the championship failed to get rankings.

China dominated the event with six gold medals followed by Kazakhstan with three gold medals. New Zealand was the other country to grab gold by clinching the super heavyweight title. As many as 147 boxers from 22 countries took part in the championship.
