Cruelty to animals

Letter October 04, 2018
Animal beatings occur even in a Muslim-majority country like Pakistan

KECH: People understand and many even realise that animals are harmless creatures, they don’t attack unless attacked or provoked, but yet many go on beating and hitting animals brutally without showing any remorse.

In Pakistan, where majority of the population is Muslim and know that the religion too teaches to be affectionate and considerate to animals, one sees humans beating animals, such as donkeys, or culling dogs. There are also many stories of people destroying bird nests if built on their premises or trees in their lawns. This is unfortunate.

Animals are innocent beings without the ability to speak and voice their concerns and because of this humans go on practising their evil ways. But our governments — provincial and federal — need to put a stop to this act of brutality. And for this, a law penalising humans should be devised and then a committee be constituted to ensure implementation of the relevant laws. Cruelty to animals should be punished.
