Welfare Department has proposed the closure of its six wings, The Express Tribune has learnt.
Officials said that the department had suggested abolishing the women’s development, industrial homes, design branch, board branch, public relations branch and social services board because of a shortage of funds. Director (administration) Sheikh Abdul Ghaffar, however, denied the wings were being closed or funds were short.
Rs207m requested
The Social Welfare Department has sent a formal request for a Rs207 million budget for the upcoming fiscal year to the government, a department spokesman said. He said on the condition of anonymity that the funds would be used to start eight new schemes and continue work on five existing projects, including a rehabilitation home for beggars in Lahore costing
Rs1 million.
