Minister suspends 22 absent KDA, SCBA officials

Orders handed down following repeated warnings

KARACHI: Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani on Monday suspended 22 Karachi Development Authority (KDA) and Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) officials of grade-17 and above  for absenteeism.

The orders were handed down following repeated warnings. The minister paid a surprise visit to SBCA and KDA offices before giving the orders. KDA DG Sami Siddiqui, SBCA DG  Iftikhar Qaimkhani accompanied the minister on the surprise inspection.

The minster also ordered one-day salaries of grade-16 officials not present. Inspecting attendance records, Ghani warned of strict action if unexplained absenteeism continued.

Ghani told journalists many employees 'worked according to whim". They, he said, had devised their own 'timings'.

“Many work for a mere two to three hours daily.” The minister had directed all KDA and SBCA personnel to reach work by 9am over previous visits.
