Strike against KESC: Violence leaves 2 dead, several injured

After political parties announced the strike, sporadic incidents of violence and arson caused unrest in the city.

Strike against KESC: Violence leaves 2 dead, several injured
KARACHI: During the ongoing strike against KESC in Karachi, incidents of violence left two people dead while four others have been injured.

Soon after political parties announced the strike, sporadic incidents of violence and arson caused unrest in the city. Four vehicles were also set ablaze.

In Sohrab Goth, unidentified people threw stones and burned tyres disrupting the flow of traffic.

Rangers and police have been called in and a subsequent exchange of fire has injured four people including one Rangers official.

Meanwhile, in seperate incidents of shooting, two people were killed in Gulistan-e-Johar and near Malir Jamia Malia College, while a person was injured in Quaidabad.

Locals face increasing problems after public transport and petrol pumps joined in with the strike and remained closed for the day.

asim | 13 years ago | Reply This was not a strike. This was a terror call by the terrorist organisations. Every honest and law abiding citizen wanted to go to work but since this parties who don't have zero representation in the general public. So, when public do not want to follow them and want to go to work they scare the city by making their goonda's burn tyres on the roads, firing in the air, closing bazaars forcibly. How pathetic it is and as usual our corrupt police, law enforcement agencies can do anything. Who cares about these inefficient, corrupt, law breaking, KESC staff who have put the whole city hostage for the past 1 month. They don't give a zilch about the citizens of the city when they have proved by making us having sleepless nights, our children giving their life/career important exams in load shedding. I hope they are all fired. This is no way to negotiate, there are other ways to resort to problems if the management is not listening.
