English medium system to be restored in govt schools

RAWALPINDI: With education among the priority sectors which the incumbent government is focusing on, the government has started revising the entire curriculum for primary and secondary education in Punjab.

In addition, it plans to introduce three new faculties at the intermediate level including fine arts, medical technology and engineering technology apart from the existing subjects.

The premedical technology group will see subjects such as pharmaceutical, physiotherapy and biomedical technologies taught.

The government will also restore the English medium system in public schools to bring their standards in line with private schools. Subsequently, all subjects taught in such schools, other than Urdu and Islamiyat, will be administered in English.

Moreover, the government is mulling ways to make admission for every child is five-years-of-age or older mandatory.

Educational expenditures of the students in public schools will be completely be borne by the government including books, copies, uniform and bags.

In case parents fail to enrol children who reach five-years-of-age, their computerized identity cards (CNICs) will be blocked.

In order to facilitate the project, fiscal help will be accepted from non-governmental organisations (NGOs) based in Europe, including Britain.

Parents of female students in villages will be given additional financial assistance.

The government is expected to announce recruitment on vacant teaching posts in government schools next month.
