The Canadian Red Cross (CRC) and its Pakistani partner Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) will generate funds for rehabilitation of last year’s flood survivors. Headed by PRCS Chairperson Senator Nilofar Bakhtiar, a delegation of PRCS has been invited by CRC to visit Canada.
As the survivors await rehabilitation, there are reports of fresh floods in K-P and Sindh in the coming monsoon, the PRCS chairperson said, adding there is a dire need to sensitise the people to seek funds and support in case of any disaster to minimise the losses. She said that CRC has been a key partner of PRCS in delivering both emergency and post-emergency assistance to vulnerable communities during major disasters in Pakistan. Efforts will be focused on volunteers’ training, health, water and sanitation, she said. To date, since the 2010 floods, CRC along with Canadian government has contributed C$17.78 million bilaterally and multilaterally as emergency relief.
