OIC calls for immediate cessation of rights violation in IoK

UN High Commissioner’s damning report on IoK is based on facts: FM Qureshi

The Organistation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has called for an immediate cessation of oppression and rights violations imposed on Kashmiris by Indian occupying forces in occupied Kashmir, Radio Pakistan reported.



In a meeting of the OIC contact group on Kashmir on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), the organisation urged UN to probe human rights violations in Indian-occupied Kashmir (IoK).

Speaking at the event, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi remarked that if India had nothing to hide then it should support the establishment of an independent inquiry commission. “India is subjecting the population in IoK to brutal treatment in the guise of black laws,” he said while referring to the UN High Commissioner’s damning report on occupied Kashmir.

The foreign minister also asked India to grant access to OIC contact group to visit the occupied territory.



The meeting was attended by representatives from Turkey, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan and others. All members reaffirmed complete solidarity with Kashmiris and their struggle to self-determination. They agreed that a settlement of the dispute in accordance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions was a pre-condition for lasting peace in South Asia.

In his address, OIC Secretary-General Yousef al Othaimeen urged the Indian government to settle the dispute keeping in view the wishes of Kashmiri people and the UN Security Council. He condemned the killings of civilians by Indian occupying forces.

President Azad Jammu and Kashmir Sardar Masood Khan briefed the OIC on massive violations of human rights and international humanitarian laws being carried out by the Indian army. He urged the international community to push India for a peaceful resolution.
