FWO ready to build Leh Expressway in Rawalpindi
A complete map of the expressway would be issued within days
RAWALPINDI:
An agreement to construct Leh Expressway will be finalised within two weeks, Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed said on Wednesday.
FWO has agreed to finalise the agreement to complete the project on BOT basis, Rasheed said talking to the media.

Leh Expressway project was launched in the Pervez Musharraf regime in 2007 when Rasheed was Railways minister.
Leh Expressway which was earlier proposed from Amar Chowk, Chaklala, will start from Soan Bridge to facilitate maximum population of the city. He informed that the expressway would change fate of the citizens particularly living along Leh Nullah as the citizens would be allowed to construct commercial buildings along the road.
A complete map of the expressway would be issued within days, he informed.
To a question he said, the payments were given to the owners whose properties were acquired for the project. “I met the FWO authorities on Tuesday. Another meeting in this connection will be held on September 27,” the minister said.
He said that the motorists would be charged a nominal toll for using the facility, he said.
To another question, the minister informed that Pakistan Railways (PR) would start process within 15 days to recruit 2,031 employees out of 23,000 jobs announced for the PR. First approval in this regard has been given.
Finance minister pledges optimum use of public funds
An advertisement will be in the national dailies within couple of days. The recruitment would be purely on merit and 50 per cent jobs would be for poor and deserving people, he said.
“We are going to take revolutionary steps for the up-gradation of PR particularly during 100 days. The task given by the Prime Minister Imran Khan would be completed at all cost.
