ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office spokesperson Abdul Basit confirmed that the Pakistani detained in Chile has been released.

Parents of the Pakistani man, arrested at the US Embassy in Chile, had claimed that their son was innocent of any wrongdoings.

The man was identified by the US State Department as 28-year-old Muhammad Saifur Rehman Khan. Saif was taken into custody after triggering an explosive detector and was charged with illegal possession of explosives. He was later freed pending a probe.

A State Department official informed that Khan was invited to the US embassy so officials could notify him that his visa for the US was being revoked.
