The kiln owners have reportedly received shut down notices from the government.
The provincial government has decided to close down kilns to reduce the spread of smog which starts with the arrival of winters.
However, the major contributor to smog remains smoke-emitting vehicles and other illegal emissions. According to government notices, kilns should remain shut for the period between October 20 and December 30. The closure may deprive hundreds of thousands of kiln laborers of their jobs while production cuts may also be reflected in higher prices of the bricks. Development work and projects may also be slowed down. Kiln owners have requested the government review their decision and suggest other alternatives.
