Healthcare woes in Balochistan

Provincial health department seems to be in a state of neglec

TURBAT: Balochistan is blessed with a vast reservoir of precious minerals and is rightly listed as among the richest provinces of Pakistan. Its population is increasing, albeit at a rate slower than that of other provinces. Unfortunately, the provincial health department seems to be in a state of neglect. For decades the province has faced overall neglect. Hence, healthcare services in the province are unsatisfactory. In some public-sector hospitals, there are only few doctors available while many departments remain non-functional. Because of the high consultation and treatment fees charged at private hospitals, poor people cannot go there. A good and affordable healthcare system is the right of every citizen of Pakistan. The government of Balochistan should improve healthcare services. The federal as well as provincial governments should ensure proper healthcare services for the people.
