Fixing our traffic woes

Letter September 24, 2018
The provincial government and the local city authorities must take steps to improve the traffic situation in the city

KARACHI: Karachi is one of the big cities of Pakistan where road accidents are a common occurrence. Both the young and old have been among the victims of the poorly-managed traffic and irresponsible traffic police who are negligent of their duties. In case of violation of traffic rules, traffic police officials reportedly force motorists to bribe them, instead of charging them with a challan. For the same reasons people face several problems on a daily basis during the commute. They can’t reach their destination on time due to traffic jams which have worsened over the past few years due to an increase in the number of vehicles on the roads.

The provincial government and the local city authorities must take steps to improve the traffic situation in the city. Less time spent on roads in traffic jams will result in increased productivity of those who travel to and from their workplaces every day.
