Ignoring Sindhi

English is an international language and our youth is passionate about mastering it

GHOTKI: Without doubt, English is an international language and our youth is passionate about mastering it. One should have a reasonable command over it in order to excel in exams and interviews. However, we must not forget that Sindhi is our regional tongue. If not more, it requires considerable attention.

Parents are often conscious about their children’s written and spoken English. But, sadly, they care less about the fluency of spoken or written Sindhi. They are ready to spend on enrolling their children in expensive English-speaking private schools or even spend extra on English tuitions.

This is not to say that English should not be learnt but that this should not be done at the cost of ignoring Sindhi. As a native language and the mother tongue of Sindhis, parents should give learning Sindhi equal importance. It is part of our identity.
